Pacific Islands Business Forum

The Pacific Islands Business Forum (PIBF) took place at the Radisson Resort Fiji Denarau Island from August 6-7. PIBF was organised by the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organistion (PIPSO) with support from UNDP Pacific Centre and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.

PIBF brought together some 200 private sector representatives and government officials from the region to discuss private sector-led economic growth.

The objectives of the meeting were:

•  To exchange views on the opportunities and challenges facing Pacific businesses in an emerging market of greater regional integration and globalisation.

•  To discuss how best to enhance the effectiveness of public-private partnerships and dialogue to support public policy making and strengthen the enabling environment for Pacific businesses to compete.

•  To identify and recommend key policy initiatives necessary to enhance private sect or development and economic growth; and,

•  To network with regional business leaders and explore opportunities for investment and collaboration.

Topics under discussion at PIBF included the opportunities and challenges for the private sector in regional economic integration; trade agreements and their impact in island exports; raising private investor confidence through improvements to the business climate; competitiveness and export development; linking goods to markets; and competitiveness and competition in the telecommunications sector.
